Welcome to the nerd club! We’re Ashley & Vanniall – and our 3 cats!
We’re a family run local business in the heart of the Lower East Side, Manhattan, NYC!
Together we’ve been working in media for 20 years, and Ashley has been working with tech since 2004 and in media production since 2009, including working as a digital tech on every sort of photoshoot you could imagine.
Monstergirl Nerd Club grew out of a desire for a community space and to turn our passion into a way to share more with the world.
It may seem silly to some, but it always frustrated us when we’d see kids in a movie playing with videogames released a decade after the film takes place! We figured we could set this right with accessible and expert-assisted equipment rental and media library access!
After successfully growing our business and library over more than a decade of production, we more recently opened it up for browsing and making use of in person at our NYC location. We love being able to help researchers, creatives, and artists access art that can be hard to find in the typical library system and quite expensive to collect themselves.
We’re especially proud to be hosting events for our more marginalized community members and to offer sliding scale rates for our services and materials.
Previously hosting events under the name McCarren Park Planeswalkers, ee moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan in 2020 and have been kicking it oldschool here as Monstergirl Nerd Club ever since!
Ashley and Vanniall are also both accomplished creators in their own rights – though they don’t make content for children. In fact, due to many games, comics and other media having adult themes, it’s an adults only space. Thanks for keeping that in mind!
